Film Friendly Saskatchewan
Charlize Theron. Ryan Reynolds. Forest Whitaker. Bob Hoskins. Christian Slater. Kristen Stewart. These are just a few celebrities who have enjoyed the scenery, amenities and hospitality of Saskatchewan.
The film and television industry is dynamic and exciting and Saskatchewan is very proud of the films that are produced here. Although filming can sometimes be disruptive to communities, parking and traffic, SaskFilm is committed to providing liaison services to our community. Film and television production provides many valuable spinoffs like job creation, economic spinoffs and the opportunity to showcase our beautiful province on screens around the world.
SaskFilm is excited to introduce Regina as the first Film Friendly community in Saskatchewan. In collaboration with City of Regina, Regina Downtown Business Improvement District, Regina Regional Opportunities Commission, Regina Hotel Association, and Regina Warehouse District, we hope to educate our community about the logistics of film production and reduce some of the typical disruptions by helping the local film and television industry establish effective working relationships with the communities in which they are working. We plan to expand the Film Friendly initiative to other Saskatchewan communities, like Yorkton and Saskatoon, later in the year.
Why is filming important to Saskatchewan?
- Film and television production is labour intensive, which provides significant employment impacts to our community.
- Production spending impacts a broad range of sectors including accommodations, restaurants, retail, building material suppliers, grocery stores, office supplies, furniture stores, dry cleaning, travel agents and businesses and homes as locations
- Production is a great boost for tourism, investment and business
- Film production contributes to our provincial cultural fabric. Our productions have been recognized globally through awards, nominations and screenings
